A little care goes a long way. Follow these simple steps to help your Meadowlark flowers stay fresh and beautiful for as long as possible.
Start with a clean vase
Use a vase that has been thoroughly cleaned, as bacteria in old water can shorten the life of fresh flowers. Fill with fresh, cool water before arranging your stems.
Trim the stems
Trim around 1–2cm from the bottom of each stem at an angle using clean, sharp scissors or secateurs. Remove leaves that would sit below the water line.
Fresh water
Top up the vase daily and change the water every couple of days. Give the vase a quick clean and re-trim the stems whenever you refresh the water.
Choose the right spot
Keep flowers away from strong direct sunlight, radiators, fireplaces, draughts and bowls of ripening fruit. A cooler room will generally help them last longer.
Remove fading stems
Different flower varieties naturally have different vase lives. Remove any individual stems that are past their best so the remaining flowers can continue to shine.
Container arrangements
If your flowers have been designed in a container, carefully add a little fresh water each day wherever the mechanics allow, taking care not to overfill.
A note about pets
Some flowers and foliage can be harmful if eaten by pets. Lilies in particular are highly toxic to cats. Keep flowers somewhere pets cannot chew or brush against them, and contact a vet promptly if you think a pet may have ingested any part of a plant.
As your bouquet changes, remove fading stems and enjoy rearranging the remaining flowers into a smaller vase.
